“The only thing blurry about an MFF film is the line between prose and poetry. They have opened the door to science education for thousands of people by making some of the most beautiful films of this century.”
--  Meryl Streep, Academy Award-winning actress

For forty years, MacGillivray Freeman Films has studied and perfected the art of motion picture entertainment and the power of cinema to evoke emotion, stimulate the intellect, and inspire imagination. Founded by Greg MacGillivray and the late Jim Freeman, this award-winning film production company strives to create positive, enriching motion pictures as it explores new and more exciting ways to take audiences on an unforgettable adventure.

Using the finest film technology that exists, MacGillivray Freeman Films has produced more than 30 giant screen films for museums, science centers, theme parks, world fairs, and commercial cineplexes.

In addition to major accomplishments in the giant screen market, MacGillivray Freeman Films experienced early success with Hollywood motion pictures.  The company was honored for its cinematography when Jonathan Livingston Seagull was nominated for an Oscar® for Best Cinematography in 1973 and when The Towering Inferno received an Oscar in the same category in 1974.  The company also photographed for Stanley Kubrick’s award-winning The Shining.

Greg MacGillivray is both the founder and president of MacGillivray Freeman Films, Inc., and the creator of the MFF Educational Foundation.   Mr. MacGillivray has more than 30 years experience producing and distributing giant screen films such as the popular classics Everest, To Fly!, Coral Reef Adventure, and the Academy Award®-nominated films The Living Sea and Dolphins.  Mr. MacGillivray has shot more 70mm film—more than two million feet—than anyone in history.  He has dedicated his company to the production of entertaining and educational giant screen films since 1976 when he released To Fly! for the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum.  His partner, Jim Freeman, was killed in a helicopter crash while filming, just days before the premiere of To Fly!.  Mr. MacGillivray retained his friend’s name for his company as a tribute to Mr. Freeman’s artistry.

It was Mr. MacGillivray’s desire to create a self-sustaining, charitable entity that contributes to the preservation and conservation of the planet’s natural and cultural resources that began the work of the MFF Educational Foundation.
